Machame Route – Kilimanjaro’s Most Popular and Scenic Trail

The Machame Route, often called the “Whiskey Route,” is the most popular path up Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its beautiful scenery, varied landscapes, and a strong success rate, Machame attracts both first-time climbers and experienced trekkers alike.
Approaching from the southwest, it’s a challenging but rewarding route that offers excellent acclimatization opportunities through the “climb high, sleep low” principle. While it’s more physically demanding than Marangu, it’s also far more scenic and has a better success rate.
